LA Metro Breaks Ground on East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Line
LA Metro has started construction on the $4bn, 11-station East San Fernando Valley light rail line while continuing work on the D Line expansion and preparing for free Election Day transit service.
Transit infrastructure in the San Fernando Valley took a step forward as LA Metro kicked off construction on the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project, according to reports from NBC Los Angeles, MyNewsLA.com, and the Van Nuys News Press. Construction Review reported that the Los Angeles MTA broke ground on the $4bn East San Fernando Valley light rail line. According to Patch, the new Valley rail line will feature 11 stations. The Van Nuys News Press noted that the project is aimed at improving mobility throughout the San Fernando Valley, while the City of Los Angeles highlighted that Mayor Bass is bringing Metro Rail service to the East San Fernando Valley.
Although construction is now underway, the project has experienced timeline setbacks. The Los Angeles Times reported that the East San Fernando Valley light rail line is getting started five years behind schedule. Despite the wait, the Los Angeles Daily News reported that Metro showed off the under-construction San Fernando Valley rail line in an area that is eager for service.
Work is also continuing on other parts of the Los Angeles transit system. According to Business Wire and StreetInsider, Cemex is supplying concrete for a major Los Angeles Metro expansion, specifically for the LA Metro D Line expansion. At the same time, the transit agency is monitoring its ongoing operations. Progressive Railroading reported that LA Metro recently shared its latest ridership numbers along with updates on safety improvements.
For commuters and voters across the city, temporary fare changes are planned for the upcoming election. Secret Los Angeles reported that L.A. Metro is dropping all transit fares for Election Day, providing free bus, train, and bike rides across Los Angeles so that voters can reach the polls without financial barriers.
Separately, authorities shared an update on a fatal incident involving the rail system outside the city center. According to a Pasadena Now report posted on Facebook, authorities said Monday that a 25-year-old man who was fatally struck by a Metro train in Pasadena has been publicly identified.
